Midway Monk Seals
These compelling marine life sculptures are made of collected plastics from the remote Midway Atoll in Papahanaumokuakea.
It is uncertain how long ago these plastics left their respective continents. What we do know is that these plastics were floating and decaying in the sea, and eventually landed on Midway Atoll, one of the most remote places in the world.
Papahanaumokuakea is a World Heritage Site and home to many endangered marine species.

Shifting our plastics behaviors takes all of us.
In 2018, a team was dispatched to collect discarded intercontinental plastics washed up on Midway Atoll, one of the most remote places on Earth. These plastics were brought to Oahu, where they were sorted and catalogued for scientific research.
As an artist who creates contemporary fossils from past desires and discards, Endicott has dedicated the past 3 years to seeking out these plastics, which have become the focus of her work. These plastics serve as a symbol of how we, as global citizens, have neglected our responsibility to care for the Earth and all its inhabitants.
